Available once more on good ol' vinyl for the first time in (what seems like) years, it's the self-titled debut by Cymande. They were innovators back in 1972 and 'Cymande' despite being the product of a British band still sounds like it was beamed down from Zambia via Kingston, Jamaica, last night. An unbelievably tight band, the grooves on this record -- fused from reggae, psych-rock and deep-fried funk -- inspired plenty of loose limbed shaking and partying down the years. And, of course, the likes of 'Bra' and 'The Message' were sampled by countless hip hoppers and DJs.
